In alignment with our mission to improve the lives of billions of farmed fish, Fish Welfare Initiative seeks to provide compelling stories to our producer, corporate, political and consumer stakeholders about the benefits and importance of improving fish welfare.

For this role, we’re looking for an exceptional communicator who can take the lead on crafting and publicizing such stories.

Note: We are only accepting Indian nationals or people living in India for this position.

Who We Are 

Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) is a startup organization whose mission is to improve the welfare of fish as much as possible. We focus specifically on farmed fish, or fish raised in aquaculture.

​

We collaborate with corporations, governments and producers to improve animal welfare standards in aquaculture. We believe that this is the right thing for fish, farmers and consumers.

​

How You Will Make a Difference

The following will be the core responsibilities of the Communications Lead:

​

  • Write and publicize blogs, op-eds and other written works about farmers, NGOs and corporations in the Alliance for Responsible Aquaculture.

  • Create materials to be used in corporate outreach.

  • Gain media exposure for selected corporations.

  • Prepare regular materials to be sent to FWI’s network of political stakeholders.

  • Build FWI India’s website and social media presence.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Managing Director, India.

Qualifications

Required Criteria

You must meet all of these in order to be eligible for this position:

  • 2 years of experience in previous communications roles.

  • Written and verbal fluency in English.

  • Exceptional communication skills.

Preferred Criteria

We encourage you to apply even if you only meet some of these:

  • Written and verbal fluency in Telugu.

  • Previous experience in animal advocacy or agriculture.

  • Ability to work independently and assist in setting the vision for FWI’s communications work.

  • Excited by intense and rewarding work in a new startup.

  • An established network of national and local media establishments.

We are especially interested in candidates with a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of animals.

The Fine Print

  • Location: Preferred that several months of the year be spent in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The rest may be spent remotely.

  • Position Status: Full-time (although we may consider part-time work for exceptionally skilled applicants).

  • Benefits: Health insurance, flexible hours, (largely) remote work, startup atmosphere.

  • Start Date: ASAP, with some flexibility.

  • Pay: Rs. 70,000 to 90,000 per month.
